The Samba change log is viewed to determine whether fix is available or not and then the Samba update is applied to the target devices.
A Linux device is identified as being vulnerable to an SMB/CIFS issue which has been corrected by a recent patch. The Samba change log is viewed to determine whether a fix is available. Finding that a fix has been released, we then apply a Samba update to the device.
Upgrade the Samba Package (CVE-2017-7494) to latest version through command line for the end-user device.
The Linux client was running Ubuntu Server 16.04. Change log functionality uses the apt changelog command which is not available on older Linux platforms, so this product pack may not function as desired on these platforms.
The installation upgrade process uses the 'apt' package manager. It will not function on Linux distributions that use alternative package managers such as zypper or rpm. However, of course, it would be possible to create a more sophisticated payload to cope with those situations.
